Jeffrey E. Janis, M.D. is full-time faculty as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Plastic Surgery at UT Southwestern Medical Center. His clinical practice is based at UT Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas, Texas, and operates at UT Southwestern University Hospital, Parkland Memorial Hospital, Baylor University Medical Center, Children’s Medical Center, St. Paul Medical Center, and the Veteran’s Administration Medical Center.
Dr. Janis grew up in Columbus, Ohio and completed his undergraduate education at Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri, where he graduated magna cum laude from the Olin School of Business with Honors in Management and Marketing. He was also awarded membership into Beta Gamma Sigma, the business honor society. He received his medical degree from Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine in Cleveland, Ohio, where he was inducted into Alpha Omega Alpha, the medical honor society. He was also the recipient of the William D. Holden Award in Surgery. He completed his general surgery and plastic surgery residencies at The University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center, and subsequently joined the Department of Plastic Surgery at UT Southwestern in Dallas in 2003.
Dr. Janis has been the recipient of numerous awards during his training in general and plastic surgery. He received the Certificate of Achievement for outstanding accomplishment in surgical education in 1998-99 and 1999-2000. He received the "Excellence in Teaching" award in 2003 from the Department of Plastic Surgery at UT Southwestern, and also received the "Best Research Paper" award during the 42nd Annual Plastic Surgery Senior Resident’s Conference in Los Angeles in March 2003. He was awarded "Clinician of the Year" by the Department of Plastic Surgery in 2004. Most recently, he was awarded "Best Presentation" at the Texas Society of Plastic Surgeons Annual Meeting in 2006.
Dr. Janis is board certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery and an active member of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons. He lectures locally and nationally on all aspects of plastic and reconstructive surgery and has written numerous articles for scientific and medical publications, as well as co-authored several book chapters for textbooks in plastic surgery. He recently published his first book, "Essentials of Plastic Surgery", and served as a Guest Editor for a 300-page supplement to Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery entitled "Current Concepts in Wound Care", both in 2006.
Dr. Janis interests in plastic surgery are facial cosmetic surgery, facial/head and neck reconstructive surgery, cosmetic and reconstructive surgery of the breasts, chest wall reconstruction, body contouring, lower extremity reconstruction, the treatment of migraine headaches (Botox® and surgical), and microsurgery.
Dr. Janis lives in Dallas and is married.
